    Grant Seeking & Proposal Writing Workshop Offered

    Independence, Iowa – Silos & Smokestacks National Heritage Area (SSNHA) is holding a day-long workshop “Get the Key to Grant Seeking & Proposal Writing,” on Tuesday, Feb. 26, 2008. The workshop will be held at Heartland Acres Agribition Center in Independence.

    Workshop participants will learn how to identify funding opportunities and write successful grant proposals with an emphasis on private sector funding sources. Both print and electronic resources will be utilized to research prospective funders, along with practical tips for making standout proposals.

    Jeanie Lovell, Director of Corporate and Foundation Relations at Luther College, will present the workshop. Jeanie has written and/or edited over 350 grant proposals since 1993, generating more than $19 million in corporate and foundation support for the college.

    “We are delighted to collaborate with Jeanie to put on this first-rate workshop and help our region secure funding for preserving and telling their stories,” commented Don Short, SSNHA President.

    Registration is due Feb. 19 and will be limited to 40 registrants. The registration fee is $55 per person affiliated with a designated SSNHA site and $69 per person for all other participants.

    Silos & Smokestacks National Heritage Area is one of 37 federally designated heritage areas in the nation and is an Affiliated Area of the National Park Service. Through the development of a network of sites, programs and events, the Heritage Area’s mission is to interpret farm life, agribusiness and rural communities – past and present.
