Join us for a Reception and Gallery Talk celebrating the opening of Gestures of Respect by Roger Bartlett, on display in the Forsberg Riverside Galleries October 13, 2016 through January 15, 2017. The Reception is free and sponsored by Friends of the Art Center.
Gestures of Respect features works created by Roger Bartlett from the 1970’s to the present. While expressing a preference for using the simplest of tools, the pencil, over the years Bartlett has explored various media including drawing, painting, printmaking, woodworking and sculpture, capturing a range of subjects. This exhibition particularly looks at those works focused on the human figure and portraiture.
The infinite complexities of gestures contained in the human form – hands, arms, legs, faces and bodies can move and convey so many expressions. These features are capable of expressing a depth of intellectual, emotional and spiritual drama. Bartlett’s tireless pursuit hinges on the capturing of these gestures.
