Let’s go fly a kite!
The skies above the Jenison Meacham Memorial Arts Center will be filled with huge creatures as the Belmond Area Arts Council sponsors “Kites over the Prairie” on Sat., June 3 from 11 a.m. – 4 p.m. Mark Brandt of Clear Lake will be demonstrating kite flying with his massive kites in the field east of the museum, located one and one-fourth miles north of Belmond at 1179 Taylor Ave. Many of these kites have been flown at the winter festival on Clear Lake. In addition to the kite flying demonstrations, there will be finger painting, a bounce house, lawn games and concessions. Free kites will be available for the first 60 children.
While you are at Kite Day, be sure to come into the Arts Center and enjoy the artwork of Marvella Blome of Thompson, Iowa.
The public is invited to attend this free event. Children and adults are encouraged to bring their own kites to fly in a separate area. Food and beverages will be available on the grounds and there are modern restroom facilities.
