Grant Program Overview

Silos & Smokestacks National Heritage Area (SSNHA) is proud to offer four grant programs to help the region tell and preserve their stories of American Agriculture.

Internship Grant Program

Applications for the Internship Grant Program are due postmarked February 1, 2012. This program is open to Designated Partner Sites only. The purpose of this internship program is to extend a student's education beyond the classroom and to provide opportunities to network with various businesses, museums, and other service organizations within SSNHA. General Grant Program

Applications for the General Grant Program are due postmarked by April 25, 2012. Eligible grant projects must be located in one of the 37 counties within the Heritage Area and provide a 1-1 match to the grant request. There is $50,000 available for projects including exhibit development, educational programs, interpretive signage, marketing, and event programming. Grant awards may range from $1,000 to $10,000. Eligible applicants are non-profit organizations, local or regional governments, or federally recognized Indian tribes located within the Heritage Area. Interpretive Planning Grant Program

Applications for the Interpretive Planning Grant Program are due postmarked by April 25, 2012. The purpose of this program is to assist sites and organizations that need interpretive planning assistance in identifying their interpretive significance, story and/or themes. Specifically, planning to identify how they help preserve and interpret America's agricultural and agricultural industrial stories. Support will be considered for cultural, ethnic, arts and recreation programs to the extent that they highlight the agricultural or agricultural industrial themes. Planning funds can be used for professional assistance, consultants, contractors, design fees, mileage for assistance (such items are considered as eligible expenditures). Funds may also be used to support research, thematic writing, identification of images, preliminary design and layout of an exhibit, and interpretive sign. The maximum grant request is $2,500. Eligible applicants must be one of the following: a non-profit organization, a local or regional government, or a federally recognized Indian tribe. Bus Grant Program

2011-2012 Bus Grant funds have been distributed. The next bus grant cycle will begin August 2012.
