The African American Museum of Iowa features the rich history, heritage and culture of Iowa's African Americans. The permanent exhibit, "Endless Possibilities" covers African American history from pre-slavery times in Africa to present day struggles and accomplishments in Iowa.
Hours:
Year-round, Mon-Sat 10-4. Admission:
$5 adults, $4 seniors, $2.50 children and students. Group rates.

Imagine you are a freedom Seeker – a runaway slave traveling Iowa’s Underground Railroad in 1853. On this journey, you’ll encounter slave catchers, farmers, and bounty hunters, while trying to navigate Iowa’s Underground Railroad to reach Canada. Who can you trust? Will your group make it to freedom? Or will you be captured and sent back into slavery? Let the African American Museum of Iowa and Wickiup Hill Outdoor Learning Center take you back in time to experience the journey’s perils and triumphs in this interactive living-history event.
This program is specifically designed for preschoolers.

Learn what an archaeologist really does in this hands-on Learning Safari. Your preschooler will explore an archaeology toolkit, then dig in the dirt looking for artifacts.

Tasty Tuesdays are held in Celebration Hall at the African American Museum of Iowa. They are being offered in conjunction with the woman's exhibit, Our Sisters' Many Hats. Children ages 4- 12 are welcome with a parent or guardian.
