“We are thrilled to continue our ongoing relationship with Main Street Waterloo at our
new location in the Fowler Building,” commented Don Short, SSNHA President. “We invite
everyone to attend and join us in celebration.”
Built in 1884, the Fowler Building was the center of regional grocery wholesale
operations in Waterloo and fed the evolution of Waterloo from an agricultural town to a city of
factories and manufacturing. Located in the official Downtown Waterloo Cultural &
Entertainment District, the recently restored building is listed on the National Register of
Historic Places.
SSNHA is one of 37 federally designated heritage areas in the nation and is Affiliated
Area of the National Park Service. The Heritage Area covers 37 counties in the northeast
quadrant of Iowa. Interstate 80 borders it on the south and Interstate 35 borders it on the
west. Through a network of sites, programs and events, SSNHA interprets farm life,
agribusiness, and rural communities—past and present. To learn more about Silos &
