Sixteen campers braved the cold winds of March to spend their Spring Break traveling throughout the Silos & Smokestacks National Heritage Area. Blizzard like conditions limited activities early in the week, but as the sun came out so did campers spirits. Snowmen were fashioned and homemade apple pies were baked, warming even the coldest tummies. By mid week, the vans were loaded and travel began to farm sites where everyone learned how to feed a baby goat and how to behave around a 2,000 lbs buffalo. By Friday, friendships had been created and campers had memories to last a lifetime.
Thank you to the Community Foundation of Northeast Iowa for financially supporting SSNHA seasonal camp program and to Hartman Reserve Nature Center for once again partnering with the Heritage Area to provide this program.
