Celebrate with Silos & Smokestacks National Heritage Area

Silos & Smokestacks is celebrating its 25th Anniversary in 2021! We are thrilled to share several events and program opportunities with you.

All designated partner sites will receive a 25th Anniversary Kit from Silos & Smokestacks. The Kit will include:

  • Tabletop Signage
  • Buttons for your staff and volunteers to wear
  • New door/window clings
  • Poster with Schedule of Events
  • 25th Anniversary Stamp for the Visitor Guide (More information below)

Here are other ways for your site to get involved.

  1. 25th Anniversary Stamp Challenge: Each site will receive at personalized Silos & Smokestacks 25th Anniversary Stamp. Visitors can get their SSNHA Visitor Guide stamped by your site in the special two page center spread of the 25th Anniversary Edition. The first 25 visitors to get their guide stamped by 25 different sites will receive a prize.
  2. Kids Coloring Contest: Silos & Smokestacks Headquarters will be hosting a Kids Coloring Contest in June 2021.  Partner sites are invited to host their own simultaneous contest. Coloring sheets will be provided in the Online Media Kit. It’s preferred that your contest is promoted at the same time or after SSNHA’s contest. It’s up to each site to set-up the prizes and parameters for its contest.
  3. Instagram Tuesday Takeover: Starting in March, every Tuesday a partner site will takeover Silos & Smokestacks Instagram. Sites are invited to post unlimited stories and photos about events, programs and exhibits. Sign-up for the Tuesday Takeover HERE.
  4. Wednesdays: What in the Ag is This?: Sites can submit a photo or video and an explanation of a unique agricultural object in its collection. Items should not be limited to things that can fit your hand – think outside the box! Buildings, landscapes, animals, plants, nature, tools, machines, etc. Photos/Videos will be posted every Wednesday – the public will be invited to guess what the item is or how it relates to agriculture. On Thursday, the image/video will be posted again with an explanation provided. If you would like to submit objects for “What in the Ag is This?” please send them jwadebooth@silosandsmokestacks.org!
  5. Farm-to-Table/Grand Opening: On Aug. 1 Silos & Smokestacks is hosting a Farm-To-Table and Grand Opening event with live music and entertainment. The event will be located across the street from SSNHAs new headquarters in downtown Waterloo. Partner sites are invited to set up a display or exhibit during the event. If you are interested in this opportunity, email Laura Elfers at lelfers@silosandsmokestacks.org.

The 25th Anniversary Visitor Guides will be shipped to partner sites separately in late March. Each site will receive minimum one box of guides. If you would like more than one box in your initial shipment, please email Eileen Salkowski at esalkowski@silosandsmokestacks.org.
