What do approximately 5,000 visitors each year, who have just toured a two-story, 30,000 Square foot historic building that houses over 50,000 artifacts and have just experienced a journey into the past to an 1853 log cabin, a large room full of historic tractors, one of the most complete drug store collections in the world, five 1900 era period rooms, dentist and doctor offices, chapel, general store, schoolroom, clothing store, printing office, and more, say?

“You have a great museum here!” “I’ve been to many museums and this is one of the best.” “We really enjoyed ourselves!” “We didn’t realize that you had so many things in here,” and more.

What do three friendly, enthusiastic, history-loving, museum staff members do to ensure that the visitors go away with a positive experience?

Provide interesting tours; answer questions; help researchers of all kinds, from genealogists to students to tractor enthusiasts; provide Kid’s Day programs; plan special events; create new displays; educate the public through special programs; properly care for donated artifacts; fundraise to “keep the doors open;” and more.

If all this seems hard to believe, come, visit, and see for yourself!

Today a gentleman said, “Boy, you really have a treasure here.” We agree wholeheartedly, and that is why we believe that our 52 year old museum deserves the Silos and Smokestacks “Site of the Year” Award.
