Event Description
Join Tara Whitsitt, the nationally-known fermentation evangelist who spearheads the charitable grassroots organization, Fermentation on Wheels at Three Pines Farm for a vegetable fermentation workshop! Whitsitt will be teaching the simple tradition of preserving foods through bacterial collaboration using local, seasonal ingredients. Whitsitt will share the benefits of fermentation and how you can creatively & fearlessly ferment in your own kitchen. This workshop targets novice through intermediate students, offering a thorough overview of the art of lacto-fermented vegetables.
There will also give a brief introduction on starter cultures (sourdough, kombucha, dairy kefir, etc.) and a tour of the bus. Attendees may bring starter cultures of their own for exchange & discussion as well as bring an empty jar and take a culture home from the workshop.
If you would like to take a starter culture home with you, please bring something to trade or $10 (per starter culture). There is also a suggested $10 donation for this workshop, but donating less or more is completely up to you. All donations support the continuation of the Fermentation on Wheels Midwest tour.
Spots are limited, so please register by emailing kara@threepinesfarm.org.
