Exploring the Intersection of Food & Conservation in Dubuque
February 14, 2015 – 9am-3pm / Valentine’s Day!

Dubuque’s conservation & local foods communities are teaming up this Valentine’s Day to host the first Food Chain Summit, bringing together area families and businesses with local farmers, food system organizers, and conservation educators to explore opportunities at the intersection of food and conservation in Dubuque!
Featuring 30+ local exhibitors, 5 breakout sessions and keynote lecture by Fred Meyer of Backyard Abundance, this event will provide timely information and resources to families, schools, and businesses looking to achieve health & sustainability goals in 2015.

Event Highlights:
For residents, families & homeowners: Area farmers & landscape designers will share resources & tips for those looking to make healthy & sustainable changes in the home this year, with breakout sessions on Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) a weekly vegetable subscription program, and Edible & Native Landscaping.
Area institutions, agencies and businesses: For businesses looking to localize supply chains, or create environmentally responsible worksite wellness programs, Iowa Food Hub, FairShare CSA Coalition, and Iowa Valley Food Co-Operative will provide information on innovations in Local Food Aggregation and Distribution, highlighting new services, workplace programs, and online ordering systems available in Eastern Iowa in 2015.
In the classroom – Farm-To-School: Extension Horticulture Educator Laura Klavitter and DMASWA Communication and Educator Coordinator Beverly Wagner will offer a session for schools, sharing information about resources available for educators looking to go green with The Green Vision Schools program and School Gardens 101.
Organized by a coalition of community organizations including the Dubuque County ISU Extension, Dubuque County Conservation Board, The Dubuque Rescue Mission, and Loras College this half-day event will be a fun and informative way for area families to jumpstart a healthy & sustainable year!
