Event Description

Pine needle basketry is a craft rich in history and American cultural heritage.  This type of basket making was conceived by Native Americans in pre-Columbian times, with the crafting techniques virtually unchanged since then.  Along with their sheer beauty, pine needle baskets are very sustainable and eco-friendly, using natural elements for construction.

Join Delayne Segar for this hands-on workshop, and experience the joy of making your very own pine needle basket.  Each student will be provided supplies to make a pine needle basket roughly 3.5” wide x 4” long x 1.25” tall.  Given your needle skills, you should be able to complete your basket within the 3 hour workshop.  If you need more time, however, we would be happy to offer you additional studio time beyond the workshop hours.

Delayne Segar is an artist who creates gorgeous free-form pine needle necklaces and baskets.  Delayne’s love of pine needle artistry grew from a 3 hour workshop on pine needle baskets she took roughly 10 years ago.  Since that time, she has honed her craft, selling her pieces in art shops around Iowa, as well as teaching others the beauty of pine needle crafting through workshops.
