Event Description
We are excited to invite the public to the PREMIER screening of “Resurrecting Forest Grove”, an hour-long documentary about the process of restoring Forest Grove No 5. Forest Grove was being reclaimed by the land due to decades of neglect. In 2012, the restoration project began by lifting the schoolhouse from its crumbled foundation. Over a period of 10 years, money was raised to restore Forest Grove to its 1920’s design and function. “Resurrecting Forest Grove” was lovingly produced by Tammy and Kelly Rundle of Fourth Wall Films. These Emmy Award winning filmmakers were on site during major phases of the restoration, capturing amazing footage of the process. In addition, they interviewed numerous former students and two former teachers, adding the excitement of hearing the voices of those who experienced rural Iowa education at Forest Grove No. 5. The film also includes local history of the 1920’s… the period of significance used in the restoration of Forest Grove… as well as information about the history of education in Iowa and throughout the USA.
