Event Description
Registration for our “S is for SAMPLER” workshop is open! You can complete your registration and payment on our website, or registration can also be handled in-person at 308 W 3rd St, between 10:00 and 4:00, Tuesday through Saturday, and between 1:00 and 4:00 on Sunday. The deadline for registration is Friday, March 21.
During the workshop, students will learn a brief history of the sampler, and how to embroider three stitches, and they will begin work on a miniature sampler (4×6 inches) suitable for framing. The alphabet and other motifs of the design were adapted from a sampler by Mahala Weise, which is in the Cedar Falls Historical Society’s collection. Her sampler was stitched in 1838.
Cost for the 3-hour workshop is $15 and it includes a kit with instructions, charted design, stitch diagrams, and a bonus design, along with fabric, floss, and a tapestry needle. Participants may choose up to 2 initials to incorporate into their sampler. Participants must be 12 years and older, and beginners are welcome.
