Star Party

Event Details

June 8, 2013 9:00 PM
Location: Prairie Grove Park, Waterloo

Event Description

This will be our only chance to see fast-moving Mercury this summer.  It will be just below much brighter Venus, which will be making its first appearance for the year.  Saturn will be high overhead and well placed for viewing.  There will be no Moon this evening, and this will give us our best opportunity to view star clusters and glowing nebulas.  Some of these are associated with the summer triangle of three bright stars that will be rising into view in the eastern sky to tell us that summer is at hand.
We will also observe the colorful double star Albireo that is within the summer triangle.
