Event Description

Learn how to spin your very own yarn in this two-part class led by Linda Miller and Karen Agee of the Northeast Iowa Weavers & Spinners Guild!  In this class, students will learn the graceful art of using a drop spindle to spin fiber.  Drop spindles date back to ancient times, and are still used today as a portable and inexpensive method of making yarns.  Important aspects of spinning, such as carding, fiber basics, and plying, will be discussed.  With this class, each student will be provided a supply of locally-sourced wool and a drop spindle hand-selected by Linda and Karen as being ideal for beginners (the fiber and drop spindle are covered by the at-cost materials fee).  The wool and drop spindle are yours to keep and take home as you hone this tranquil, traditional, and beautiful skill of handspinning.  This class would make an inspired gift for this holiday season!  Please register by Dec. 17th.  Must be 16+ years old to participate.
