For over 50 years, Living History Farms has been educating, entertaining, and connecting people of all ages to Midwestern rural life through hands-on, interactive experiences. Set on 500 acres in Urbandale, Iowa, this outdoor museum recreates the daily routines of 300 years of agricultural history with three working farms sites and the historic 1876 town of Walnut Hill.

General touring is open May-October with several special events such as Family Independence Day, Applefest and Grain Harvest held annually. Barnyard Readers storytime, field trips, educational outreach programs, historic skills classes and day camps offer education and fun for all age groups. A historic dinner program features historic menus along with interpretation and entertainment available in three historic settings.
