Are you ready to explore America’s agricultural story in a fun and interactive way? The Silos & Smokestacks Junior Ranger Program invites kids, families, and curious minds of all ages to discover the people, places, and innovations that feed the world.
From historic barns and working farms to factories and museums, you’ll travel across eastern Iowa’s National Heritage Area, learning about rural life, food production, and the cultural roots of American agriculture. Along the way, you’ll complete fun activities, earn your official Junior Ranger badge, and become a proud steward of our farming heritage!

- Visit the SSNHA Headquarters and complete the Junior Ranger activity folder earn a Junior Ranger Sticker
- Complete 5-10 activity sheets from participating SSNHA Heritage Area Sites, earn the Junior Ranger Patch
- Complete 20-25 activity sheets from participating SSNHA Heritage Area Sites, earn the Junior Ranger Badge. *Participating heritage area sites are connected below!
