Northeast Iowa –Silos & Smokestacks National Heritage Area (SSNHA)
announces its 2008 General Grant program, with $65,000 available to Heritage
Area applicants. The General Grant program helps communities preserve and
tell their agricultural heritage, while contributing to the American agricultural
story.
Eligible grant projects must be located within the Heritage Area and
provide a 1-1 match to the grant request. Projects may include exhibit
development, educational programs, interpretation, marketing, signage and event
programming. Grant applications are available online under the Grant section at
www.silosandsmokestacks.org. Applications are due postmarked June 2, 2008.
Potential applicants are encouraged to attend a free information session
on March 4, 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. at the Hurstville Interpretive Center in Maquoketa. No registration is required to attend this session.
Silos & Smokestacks National Heritage Area is one of 37 federally
designated heritage areas in the nation and is an Affiliated Area of the National
Park Service. Through the development of a network of sites, programs and
events, the Heritage Area’s mission is to interpret farm life, agribusiness and
rural communities – past and present.
