Annually, Silos & Smokestacks National Heritage Area offers matching funding support through the following Program Awards:
Field Trip Program Awards
- Available to any school within the Heritage Area.
- Will pay up to 75% of the transportation costs to any farm or Heritage Area Site in the Heritage Area.
- School applies online silosandsmokestacks.og/educate/bus-grants
- August 1 until funds are gone

Internship Program Awards
- Provides up to 75% of the wage of a college summer intern
- Available to any designated heritage area site
- To help the site expand their ag heritage story and also provide valuable experience for the student.
- Applications due early February

Small Project Program Awards
- Award Range – Below $3,000
- Eligible Applicants – SSNHA Designated and Emerging Sites in good standing
- 1:1 Non-federal Match minimum; Match must be 50% Cash minimum and up to 50% In-Kind.
- Provide SSNHA Sites with financial support including planning assistance, educational programs, interpretation, marketing, exhibit displays, interpretive signage and other special projects.
- Applications typically due September

Large Project Program Awards
- Award Range – $3,000 and above
- Eligible Applicants – Designated SSNHA Sites/Emerging Sites. A non-profit organization, a local or regional government, or a federally recognized Indian tribe.
- 4:1 Non-federal Match minimum
- To leverage larger and varied local support for planning assistance, educational programs, interpretation, marketing, exhibit displays, interpretive signage and other special projects.
- Applications typically due September
