Northeast Iowa – Silos & Smokestacks National Heritage Area (SSNHA) will be holding their
annual Golden Silo Awards Luncheon Wednesday, April 7, from 12:00-1:30 p.m. at the Sky
Event Centre, downtown Waterloo. The Sky Event Centre is located in the original Black’s
Gypsy Tea Room in the historic Black’s Building.
Each year, SSNHA celebrates the best in heritage development by presenting Golden Silo
Awards to individuals and organizations whose contributions demonstrate outstanding
excellence in preserving and telling stories of American agriculture.
This year’s special guest will be Mary Lynch Swander, Poet Laureate of the State of Iowa.
She will perform a vignette from her play, Farmscape, a docudrama capturing the changing
rural environment.
“We are proud to have Mary Swander as part of this year’s celebration. Her play Farmscape
demonstrates the very same excellence in preservation of America’s agricultural story that is
being recognized through our Golden Silo Awards,” commented Don Short, SSNHA
President.
Tickets are $30 each for this recognition of the Heritage Area’s finest. Invitation and registration form may also be found at www.silosandsmokestacks.org.
Silos & Smokestacks National Heritage Area is one of 49 federally designated heritage areas
