Event Description

Learn about the last dinosaurs to roam the earth over 65 million years ago including Tyrannosaurus rex, Triceratops, duck-billed dinosaurs, raptor dinosaurs, armored dinosaurs and more.  See genuine dinosaur fossils including bones, eggs, teeth, and claws!  View dinosaur replicas and models including a T. rex jaw, dinosaur nest, and raptor skeleton. Don will share his experiences hunting for dinosaur fossils in the badlands of South Dakota and Montana to conclude the program.

Don Johnson, “The Fossil Guy,” returns in November with educational paleontology programs for children at 2:00pm on Saturday afternoons at the University of Iowa Museum of Natural History. All “Fossil Guy” programs are free and open to the public, and include 30-minute talks with audience participation followed by 30-minutes of hands-on interaction with Don’s extensive fossil and replica collection. (Continued in series description)Presentations are geared toward elementary-age children and their families. Don is an amateur paleontologist from Fairfax, IA with a special interest in fossil vertebrates.  His collection of fossils and fossil replicas is one of the largest in Iowa, and he has experience collecting fossils in Iowa and other states out West.
