Event Description

National Astronomy Day will be celebrated with special family activities and a special star party.  The bright planet Jupiter with its moons and cloud bands will be in the western sky, and the ringed planet Saturn will be rising in the east.  The Moon will be between them and shining high in the sky.  In addition, ten bright stars, the most visible at one time, will be observed.  They include the bright stars of three winter constellations that will be visible for the last time: Orion (the Hunter) with its glorious nebula of glowing gas, Taurus (the Bull), and Canis Major (the Great Dog).
