Event Description

UNI Museum Grand Re-opening

The UNI Museum will be hosting its grand re-opening October 31st, from 11-3. This event will celebrate our new home in the Rod Library and highlight some of the exciting changes that have happened for us at the University of Northern Iowa. This reception will unveil three new exhibits to usher in our newest incarnation.

Lighting Up: Perceptions of American Drug Culture, created by one of our interns, focuses on the changing perceptions towards drug culture from the Victorian era to the 1960’s. Dia de los Muertos: Latin American Holiday Traditions will feature displays created in conjunctions with UNI’s Hispanic Latino Student Union. Our final exhibit, Elements of Design: Symbolism in Material Culture, highlights the variety of cultures represented in the UNI Museum’s collection. With these exhibits we not only seek to showcase our collections but also the collaborations that we are engaged in across campus.

This family friendly event will feature refreshments, games, and crafts for adults and children alike. We would love to have you join us as we reintroduce the Museum to the University of Northern Iowa and the Cedar Valley community. If you would like any more information on this event you can contact Jess Cruz at jessica.cruz@uni.edu or 319-273-2495.
