Event Description
Learn how to preserve your garden harvest in Canning 101: An Introduction to Water Bath Canning with Glenda Riddle. Join Glenda to learn the principles and practices of water bath canning in this hands-on workshop. Glenda, who has a background in home economics, is a master gardener, and has been canning since age 9, will cover how to preserve using the water bath canning method. Glenda will provide guidance on what foods are safe to can with the water bath method, and what foods require pressure canning. As time permits, other methods of food preservation will be discussed as well.
In this workshop, students will make two preserves – an aronia berry jam, and a pepper jam. The aronia berry jam will be made with locally grown aronia berries from Living Earth Farm, which will start offering u-pick to their customers this summer. Students will make and take home one 8 oz jar of each type of jam.
