Event Description
In the mid 1800s Iowa City, along with the rest of the state and nation, saw a boom in commercial studio photography. Portrait painters were often early adopters of the new equipment and tools and brought photographs within the reach of average families. See rare daguerreotypes, original photography equipment, and images of early Iowa City residents in this brand-new exhibit. “Faces of Iowa through the Early Lens” draws on the collections of the State Historical Society of Iowa and local historical societies throughout the state
The exhibit will run from September 29, 2017 – May 20, 2018.
Individuals with disabilities are encouraged to attend all University of Iowa-sponsored events. If you are a person who requires an accommodation in order to participate in this program, please contact the Old Capitol Museum in advance at (319) 335-0548.
