Event Description

UI Researchers will discuss Water Underground: The Science of Iowa’s Most Essential Resource, a collaborative exhibit designed for the 2015 University of Iowa Mobile Museum. The exhibit introduces the chemistry of water, Iowa’s bedrock aquifer systems, and arsenic pollution in drinking water. Essential concepts addressed by UI researchers include the behavior of water on the molecular level, how water moves underground, and the importance of testing for arsenic in rural wells. University of Iowa departments involved in the exhibit include Chemistry, Water Sustainability Initiative, Iowa Geological Survey, Center for Health Effects of Environmental Contamination, and the Office of the State Archaeologist.
