The Fertile Land

Iowa has some of the most fertile soils in the world. this “black gold” is found in northeast Iowa’s gently rolling terrain, molded by climate, water and plant life. tilling the soil is a legacy born many years ago by American Indians, who combined farming along river valleys with seasonal hunting, fishing and gathering. When pioneers arrived in Iowa and began tilling the prairie soil, they soon learned that farming – with its long hours and extreme physical demands – is a worthy, noble profession. And it certainly is not a job for the feeblehearted. It takes a special spirit to withstand the whims of the weather, to rise above each hail storm or rainy season, and not only survive, but thrive…to come back to the field again and again, to replant, harvest and rejoice.
