    Silos & Smokestacks to Hold First Annual Photography Contest

    Northeastern Iowa–Silos & Smokestacks National Heritage Area (SSNHA) is holding
    their first annual photography contest, Capture the Heart of America. The contest will take
    place from June 6, 2007 thru September 12, 2007, with winners being announced on or
    before October 30, 2007. The contest is open to both amateur and professional
    photographers.

    Photo submissions must be taken within the 37 county Heritage Area and will be
    judged from the following categories: Events/Festivals, Farm Life, Heritage Area Site, Historic
    and Scenic. Awards will be given for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place, as well as Best of Show. Select
    photos will also be considered for publication in the SSNHA Visitor Guide and The Iowan
    magazine.

    “Northeast Iowa is a picturesque region with talented people,” said Don Short, SSNHA
    Executive Director. “I’m anxious to see the beautiful images that result from the contest.”

    Silos & Smokestacks National Heritage Area is one of 37 federally designated heritage
    areas in the nation and is an Affiliated Area of the National Park Service. The Heritage Area
    covers 37 counties in the northeast quadrant of Iowa. Interstate 80 borders it on the south
    and Interstate 35 borders it on the west. Through a network of sites, programs and events,
    SSNHA interprets farm life, agribusiness, and rural communities – past and present.
