Northeast Iowa – Silos & Smokestacks National Heritage Area (SSNHA) is currently
accepting entries for their second annual photography contest, Capture the Heart of America.
The contest, which runs through August 29, seeks to capture the unique culture and heritage
of the region.
Photos submitted must be taken within the 37-county Heritage Area, with entries
accepted in the following categories: Events/Festivals, Farm Life, Heritage Area Sites,
Images of the Past and Scenic. Awards will be given in each category for first, second and
third place, as well as best of show. Select photos will be considered for publication in the
SSNHA Visitor Guide.
“Silos & Smokestacks mission is to preserve and tell the story of American
agriculture,” commented Don Short, SSNHA President. “These images offer yet another way
for the people of the region to tell their story.”
Guidelines and entry forms available at www.silosandsmokestacks.org.
SSNHA is one of 37 federally designated heritage areas in the nation and is Affiliated
Area of the National Park Service. The Heritage Area covers 37 counties in the northeast
quadrant of Iowa. Interstate 80 borders it on the south and Interstate 35 borders it on the
west. Through a network of sites, programs and events, SSNHA interprets farm life,
agribusiness, and rural communities—past and present.
