Northeast Iowa – Silos & Smokestacks National Heritage Area (SSNHA) is currently
accepting entries for the 2009 Capture the Heart of America Photo Contest. The contest,
which runs through September 18, seeks to capture the unique culture and heritage of the
region.
Photos submitted must be taken within the 37-county Heritage Area, with entries accepted in
the following categories: Events/Festivals, Farm Life, Heritage Area Sites, Images of the Past
(pre 1950s) and Scenic. Awards will be given in each category for first, second and third
place, as well as best of show. Select photos will be considered for publication in the SSNHA
Visitor Guide.
“They say a picture is worth 1,000 words,” commented Don Short, SSNHA President. “This is
very fitting, as each photo submitted holds its own unique story.”
Guidelines and entry forms are available at www.silosandsmokestacks.org. For additional
information, please call 319-234-4567.
SSNHA is one of 49 federally designated heritage areas in the nation and is an Affiliated Area
of the National Park Service. The Heritage Area covers 37 counties in the northeast quadrant
of Iowa. Interstate 80 borders it on the south and Interstate 35 borders it on the west.
Through a network of sites, programs and events, SSNHA interprets farm life, agribusiness,
and rural communities—past and present.
