Silos & Smokestacks Announces People’s Choice “Site of the Year” Finalists

Northeast Iowa – Each year, Silos & Smokestacks National Heritage Area (SSNHA)
celebrates the best in heritage development by presenting Golden Silo Awards to individuals
and organizations whose contributions demonstrate outstanding excellence in preserving and
telling America’s agricultural story. The People’s Choice “Site of the Year” is a special award
presented to one deserving SSNHA Partner Site where the public decides the winner.

From March 19-25, the public voted in the first round of voting with three finalists moving on.
Voting for finalists will run from March 27-April 3 and again be open to the public at This year’s People’s Choice “Site of the Year” finalists

Jenison Meacham Memorial Art Museum & Farm, Belmond

University of Iowa Museum of Natural History, Iowa City

Want to know if your favorite site won? The winner will be revealed to our Facebook fans at during our Annual Golden Silo Awards on April 4 between 12:00-
1:30 p.m.

Silos & Smokestacks National Heritage Area is one of 49 federally designated heritage areas
in the nation and is an Affiliated Area of the National Park Service. The Heritage Area covers
37 counties in the northeast quadrant of Iowa. Interstate 80 borders it on the south and
Interstate 35 borders it on the west. Through a network of sites, programs and events,
SSNHA interprets farm life, agribusiness and rural communities – past and present.
