Northeast Iowa – Each year, Silos & Smokestacks National Heritage Area (SSNHA) celebrates the best in heritage development by presenting Golden Silo Awards to individuals and organizations whose contributions demonstrate outstanding excellence in preserving and sharing America’s agricultural story. The People’s Choice “Site of the Year” is a special award presented to one deserving SSNHA Partner Site, where the public decides the winner from a group of nominees.
From March 16 through March 30, voting will be open online at www.silosandsmokestacks.org, with detailed schedule listed below:

This year’s People’s Choice “Site of the Year” nominees include:
• Floyd County Historical Museum, Charles City
• Fossil & Prairie Park Preserve & Center, Rockford
• Iowa’s Dairy Center, Calmar
• Heartland Acres Agribition Center, Independence
• Hurstville Interpretive Center, Maquoketa
• National Farm Toy Museum, Dyersville
• University of Iowa Museum of Natural History, Iowa City

Tickets for the luncheon are $25 per person, with reservations due by March 25. Kinze Manufacturing Plant tours are free. Silos & Smokestacks National Heritage Area is one of 49 federally designated heritage areas in the nation and is an Affiliated Area of the National Park Service. The Heritage Area covers 37 counties in the northeast quadrant of Iowa. Interstate 80 borders it on the south and Interstate 35 borders it on the west. Through a network of sites, programs and events, SSNHA interprets farm life, agribusiness and rural communities – past and present.
