Des Moines, IOWA – On April 4 representatives from historical sites, museums, farms and business will gather in Des Moines for Silos & Smokestacks National Heritage Area’s (SSHNA) 2016 Partner Site Annual Meeting & Legislative Showcase.
The day will kick off with the Partner Site Annual Meeting, 8 a.m., at the World Food Prize Hall of Laureates featuring educational sessions by local, state and national presenters; keynote program from the National Park Service; and special announcements by Silos & Smokestacks President Cara Miller.
“This is an opportunity for all of the partner sites that make up our Heritage Area to get together to share and learn from one another,” said Miller. “Getting together as a group allows us to bring in highly regarded professionals from our National Park Service partner. Drawing on experts in the fields of interpretation and historical preservation is a wonderful benefit of Silos & Smokestacks being affiliated with the National Park Service.”
In the afternoon, attendees will be shuttled to the Capitol Rotunda and convene for the first ever Silos & Smokestacks Legislative Showcase. Partner and Emerging Site representatives will have an opportunity to talk with area legislators regarding the importance of working with Iowa’s only National Heritage Area, and the need for support.
“The legislative showcase will allow us to highlight unique and interesting aspects of our partner sites for all legislators,” added Miller. “The 115 sites that make up Silos & Smokestacks National Heritage Area are a treasure to our state and to preserving and telling the story of American agriculture.”
Cost to register for the meeting is free for two representatives per designated SSNHA Partner/Emerging Site, $30 per each additional site attendee; $75/person for all other attendees not affiliated with a SSNHA Partner/Emerging Site.
