Silos & Smokestacks Celebrates 12th Annual Golden Silo Awards

WATERLOO, Iowa – Celebrate agriculture Iowa-style with Silos & Smokestacks National Heritage Area at the “Annual Golden Silo Awards & Barn Party,” Thursday, Nov. 3.

Silos & Smokestacks National Heritage Area is one of 49 federally designated heritage areas in the nation and is an Affiliated Area of the National Park Service. Through a network of sites, programs and events, SSNHA interprets farm life, agribusiness and rural communities – past and present.

Each year, SSNHA celebrates the best in heritage development by presenting Golden Silo Awards to individuals and organizations whose contributions demonstrate outstanding excellence in preserving and telling America’s agricultural story.

“The story of American agriculture in the Heritage Area is constantly evolving,” said Cara Miller, president of Silos & Smokestacks National Heritage Area. “We’re very excited to honor those who excel in sharing the agricultural experience with visitors.”

This year’s event will feature a new format with the awards ceremony taking place in the evening followed by live music and dancing. The party will take place at Beck’s Orchard and Historic Barn in Buckingham, Iowa.

“This isn’t your typical gala,” said Candy Streed, director of partnerships for Silos & Smokestacks. “You can come in your bowtie and boots if you’d like to.”

Guests will feast on a plated meal of all Iowa-style food and sip on Iowa’s finest beer and wine. Broad Street Brewing Company of Reinbeck is creating an all Iowa pale ale exclusively for Silos & Smokestacks to serve at the event. The Golden Silo Anniversary Ale features barley, corn and local hops. Live entertainment will be provided by The Ramblers, a Cedar Valley band that plays an eclectic, electric blend of swampy, roots-influenced Americana.

Tickets are $55 per person, or a $100 per couple. Deadline to register is Oct. 26. For more information or to register, visit  or call (319) 234-4567.
