Cascade Community Enhancement Corporation has been recognized as a “Preserve America Steward” for their efforts to preserve the Cascade Historic City Jailhouse & Cascade Historic Limestone Silo.
The mission of the Cascade Community Enhancement Corporation is to improve the quality of life for residents of Cascade, Iowa, through historical, recreational, and cultural enhancements. The City of Cascade relies heavily on the Corporation for planning and implementation of historic preservation projects in the community, and the work of Corporation volunteers has been essential to the success of such projects.
Through the efforts of the Corporation, the Historic City Jailhouse (built ca. 1850) has been restored. Another important project was restoration of a 1930’s historic limestone silo as an agricultural interpretive center. The interpretive center is a partner site with the Silos and Smokestacks National Heritage Area, and, in 2010, the Corporation received the “Outstanding Volunteer Award” from the Heritage Area.
