Established by the La Porte City FFA Chapter in 1970, the museum is recognized as the first of its kind in Iowa. Exhibits are located in a renovated 1914 auto and supply store, and in the town’s original Fire Station, which was built in the 1870’s and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Visitors can also explore a restored 1861 log cabin and learn about native prairie plants in our butterfly garden.

Our theme for 2022 is Living History – Past, Present, Future.  Travel through time and see the progression of medicine, telephones, barber shops and farming.

Can you imagine your life without a cellphone, a refrigerator, or indoor plumbing?  Join us for our 2023 exhibit and see how electricity changed the live of rural Americans.  While cities and towns were connecting to the electric grid in the early 1890’s, only 10% of rural Americans had electricity by 1930.  The New Deal spawned rural electric cooperatives that channeled power to rural communities across the nation.  Join us and see how electricity brought “the spark of life.”
