The REA Power Plant Museum depicts “before and after” eras of electricity in rural areas. The Plant was the first to receive a generation and transmission loan from the Rural Electrification Administration and the first plant west of the Mississippi River to generate electricity for rural areas. The Plant became operational in 1938, providing electricity until 1950 and stand-by service into the 1970s.
