The Black Hawk County Fair Board invites the community to join in the fun at the Black Hawk County 4-H and FFA Fair, scheduled for July 21 – 25 at the National Cattle Congress, 257 Ansborough Avenue in Waterloo, Iowa.  The event is free and open to the public.  Free parking is available on Cattle Congress grounds.The Black Hawk County 4-H and FFA Fair highlights work of 4-H youth and FFA in the county.  Exhibitsand project entries include livestock and non-livestock projects from youth ages 5 years and older.  A complete list of fair activities is on-line at: http://www.extension.iastate.edu/blackhawk/

 

The fair features traditional livestock shows, including beef, swine, sheep, and dairy and small animal shows, including dog agility, poultry, cavy and rabbit hopping, kid’s barn tours and hundreds of non-livestock entries in these project areas: child development, clothing, food & nutrition, home improvement, horticulture, personal development, science & engineering and visual arts.

Not a 4-Her. . . Then you are invited to enter one of five Challenge Classes.

Show off your skills in one of five Challenge Classes: Bread Dough Challenge, Bucket of Flowers & Herb Garden, Photography “Hands for Larger Service”, Pallet Challenge, and Canning Jar Challenge. The Challenge Classes Bring all entries to Estel Hall (except food items, they will go to Pepsi Pavilion) on Tuesday, July 21 between 12:30 pm and 5 pm.

In addition, everyone is invited to compete in two more events including a cooking challenge called Commodities Cooking and a cake decorating challenge called Ugly Cake. The Commodities Cooking and the Ugly Cake contest entries need be brought to the Pepsi Pavilion on Wednesday, July 22 by 12:30 pm. The contests are open to any and all adults, non 4-H youth, and 4-H members.  Exhibits will be judged, in 5 age categories including Clover Kids (K-3rd) Junior (4th-6th) Intermediate (7th & 8th) Senior (9th-12th) and Open Division (anyone not fitting in the other age categories).  One winner will be selected in each youth and adult class. Pre-registration is not required and there is no cost to participate.

 

New this year is the antique tractor exhibit. Bring your restored pre-1980’s tractor to fair by registering with Bart Samuelson at 319-231-5380.
