Event Description
The Rensselaer Russell House Museum Society will host a festive race day party at the Sullivan Brothers Iowa Veteran Museum, 503 South Street, on May 3, 2014 from 3:30-6 PM. Come early and view the hit movie Secretariet at 1:00 (optional). Mint juleps and authentic Kentucky hors d’oeurves will be served. Mini presentations will highlight the fascinating history of horse racing in the Cedar Valley, how to bet at a race, the history of jockey silks and conclude by watching the Kentucky Derby live on the multi-screen!A judged competition for ladies’ hats and gentlemen’s ties will be held.

1:00-3:30 movie Secretariet (optional)
3:30 – Introduction and History of horse racing
4:00 – How you would place a bet at a horse race
4:30 – Jerald Sulky Presentation
5:00 – Last Chance to vote on your favorite horse
5:15 – Kentucky Derby Race
5:30 – Hat/Tie Judging
Tickets are $30 for museum members and $35 for non-members. Tickets can be purchased at the Grout Museum District, 503 South Street. Purchase deadline is April 25, 2014.
