Event Description

Continuing its long tradition of presenting children’s illustrated literature as an art form, the CRMA is hosting an exhibition of the art of Brian Selznick to coincide with the completion of the new Cedar Rapids Public Library.

Selznick has illustrated more than 25 children’s books, both those written by him as well as by other authors. These include subjects as diverse as school life to farm life, from dinosaurs to dulcimers, from opera singer Marian Anderson and writer Walt Whitman to aviatrix Amelia Earhart and first lady Eleanor Roosevelt. Arriving full force on the scene with his first book,The Houdini Box (1991), Selznick is perhaps best known for his book The Invention of Hugo Cabret(2007), now a major motion picture.

In 98 original drawing and paintings, the talent of Brian Selznick will be on view for all to enjoy.

This exhibition was organized by the National Center for Children’s Illustrated Literature, Abilene, Texas, and is supported by Alliant Energy, the GreatAmerica Financial Services Corporation Donor-Advised Fund, and the Momentum Fund. The latter two are funds of The Greater Cedar Rapids Community Foundation.
