Event Description

The 2016 Gateway History Conference will be held Saturday April 23, 2015 at Eagle Point Lodge in Clinton, Iowa from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. This year’s title is “Cannot Tame That Lawless Stream: Environmental History of the Upper Mississippi River in the Iowa-Illinois Gateway Area.” Amongst the backdrop of Lake Clinton – the largest man made portion of the Upper Mississippi – presenters will examine the changing ecology of the river through the lens of Iowa-Illinois Gateway history. The presentations will be followed by a screening and discussion of River To River: Iowa’s Forgotten Highway 6 with filmmakers Kelly and Tammy Rundle. The conference is hosted by the Sawmill Museum and the Clinton Public Library. All conference sessions are free and open to the public. Registration is not required but RSVPs are encouraged.
