Bring your friends and coworkers to the National Czech & Slovak Museum & Library for happy hour! You’ll find drinks, hearty snacks, go on self-guided adventures through the museum’s galleries, and enjoy a fascinating talk about Iowa’s rich culinary heritage! Beer and koláče (kolaches)? Yes, please!

4:30 – 7:00pm: Exhibits and Museum Store open, DIY craft activity in Jiruska Gallery
5:30pm – 6:15pm: Savor Iowa’s Rich Culinary Heritage with Darcy Maulsby, author of ‘A Culinary History of Iowa’
6:30 – 7:00pm: ‘A Culinary History of Iowa’ book signing in the Museum Store with Darcy Maulsby

What comes to mind when you think of Iowa food? Everyone has an Iowa food story, and author Darcy Maulsby will bring those stories to life during her fun, interactive talk! She’ll serve up fascinating tidbits related to more than 150 years of Iowa cuisine, from all corners of the state. Discover how Iowa’s delectable cuisine is quintessentially Midwestern, grounded in its rich farming heritage and spiced with diverse ethnic influences, as reflected in kolaches (a Czech and Slovak favorite) and other treats.

Darcy Maulsby is an author, marketing professional, photographer, speaker, farmer, and foodie based in central Iowa.
