Something NEW has been added to the Sept. 8 Pioneer Craft Fair:
A new addition to this year’s Pioneer Craft Fair is “Let’s Talk About YOUR Quilt” – Bring YOUR quilt to the Ag Hall/Heritage Center in Morrison on September 8 and share what you know about it, and learn something you don’t know about it. Every quilt in any condition, vintage or contemporary, large or small, utilitarian or heirloom, has a unique story to tell.
Professional Quilt Appraiser Valorie Bonk will enjoy looking at and talking about YOUR quilt with you. She may be able to offer clues about its age, fabrics that were used in its construction, the names of the blocks or the setting of the design, the techniques that were used to assemble and quilt it, general historical information about what was happening in the world around the time the quilt was made, and general information about quilts of this type. (Maybe your antique quilt was used by the Pioneers who traveled to Iowa by wagon train.)
Throughout the day, Val will sprinkle in information about handling and care of quilts, quilt restoration and repair, why appraisals are important and how they are done, tips on shipping quilts, etiquette involved with giving quilts and quilt appraisals, the ethics of appraising quilts, and more.
The 34th Annual Pioneer Craft Fair will be held on September 8th. The event begins at 11:00 AM and runs through 4:00 PM. It will take place at the Grundy County Heritage Museum at 204 4th Street in Morrison.
