Event Description

From light bulbs to floppy disks and golf tees to blood banks, African Americans have invented or improved many items we use every day.  When the contributions these scientists, engineers, doctors, and innovators are celebrated, people become not only better informed, but also inspired.  As George Washington Carver once said “Since new developments are the products of a creative mind, we must therefore stimulate and encourage that type of mind in every way possible.”

The exhibit will feature innovators who contributed to agriculture, daily life, transportation, and medicine such as George Washington Carver, Madam C.J. Walker, Granville T. Woods, and Dr. Charles Drew. Iowans like Dr. Philip Hubbard, Boston Clay, and David Crosthwait will be highlighted.

Objects, images, and tons of hands-on activities will delight and inspire visitors of all ages!
