Event Description

The Sullivan Brothers Iowa Veterans Museum will be holding a public commemoration for local Medal of Honor recipient 2LT Robert J. Hibbs.

Light hors d’oeuvres will be provided by A Moment in Thyme Catering following the program.

Planning has been a community partnership between the Waterloo Convention & Visitors Bureau, the Robert J. Hibbs VFW Post 3896, the University of Northern Iowa’s Special Collections, the UNI ROTC, the UNI Museum, and the Grout Museum District. Artifacts associated with 2LT Hibbs will be displayed during the event, including his Medal of Honor on loan from the First Infantry Division Museum.

March 5th marks 50 years since 2LT Hibbs perished demonstrating the act of valor that entitled him to the Medal of Honor. He is the only local recipient of such an honor. This program is a part of the Grout Museum District’s continued participation in the national Vietnam War Commemoration.

The program is free and open to the public. Regular admission will be charged to those wishing to tour the museum before or after the program.
