Event Description
Join the Slater Area Historical Association in the grand opening of the Hobo Jungle Historical Site! Located on the High Trestle Trail, 1/2 mile south of Hwy 210 in Slater, Iowa, this historic site is the location of one of many “Hobo Jungles” used as gathering sites for those who rode the rails, searching for work. The site includes a 5′ 10″ hobo silhouette and a full color box car sitting on actual rails. There is also a bench and bike rack, as well an informational sign that gives the history of the Hobo culture.
Parking is available at the Slater tennis courts or the Slater swimming pool parking lots. Meet at the Christianson Shelter and ride our tram out to the Hobo Jungle site. You may also bike or walk! The distance is about one-mile round trip.
Merchandise, water, and information will be available at the shelter. Please join us, but if you miss this event, the exhibit is permanent! Visit anytime.
