30 Years

Celebrating 30 years of sharing the story of agriculture

Iowa’s history lives in the rhythm of planting and harvest, the hum of machinery, the strength of community, and the state’s endless horizon that has shaped generations. For 30 years, Silos & Smokestacks National Heritage Area has worked to preserve, interpret, and share the uniquely American story of agriculture.

Through partnerships with museums, historic sites, working farms, factories and community organizations, Silos & Smokestacks National Heritage Area connects people to the land and to one another. It protects the legacy of agricultural innovation, honors the labor of factory workers and farm families, and celebrates the cultural traditions that continue to define rural life.
