Event Description

The men and women of the Johnson County Master Gardeners celebrate their 25th year hosting the Taste of Plum Grove. This event includes a buffet of delicious food, an open house at Plum Grove Historic Home, and the availability to purchase a recipe book of the Master Gardeners’ own historic recipes—only a few dollars a book! The Master Gardeners harvest what ingredients they can from the Kitchen Garden at Plum Grove, then supplement from their personal gardens to create a very satisfying meal.

Friendly Lucas, wife of the first Territorial Governor of Iowa, was a renowned hostess who cooked with plums, veggies, and herbs that came from the gardens of Plum Grove. Come to the Taste of Plum Grove and sample treats from historical recipes made of fresh green herbs and veggies found in gardens just like Friendly’s.

A recipe booklet of the historical recipes that will be served (plus additional delicious recipes not prepared for the event!) will be on sale.

This event is free with a $5 suggested donation.
