Position: Graphic Design Assistant Intern
Location: Waterloo, Iowa
Job Summary
Looking for a college student who can commit to 2 or more semesters to gain a wonderful hands-on work experience with a regional nonprofit affiliated with the National Park Service. Individual will assist development of programs, marketing/communications and education materials for the Silos & Smokestacks National Heritage Area.
Job Duties/Responsibilities
- Create graphics and design layouts for program, marketing/communication and education materials, including e-newsletters, website, social media, print ads and visitor guide, flyers, postcards and reports
- Collaborate with the marketing and program staff to support projects with design solutions
- Prepare and send out communications to partner organizations and potential tourists using email communication tools
- Assist in implementing website updates
- Assist in mailings, filing, copying, and preparation for meetings and other general office duties
Qualifications
Majors – Communication, Graphic Design, Graphic Technologies, History, Interactive Digital Studies, Leisure, Youth, Human Services (Non-Profit Management/Tourism), Marketing, Public Relations or other related major
Preferred Skills/Experience
- Proficient and comfortable working in Adobe Creative Suites, including InDesign, Illustrator, & Photoshop and/or other common design and layout applications
- Enthusiasm for the design process and attentiveness to different project goals
- Prior experience creating graphics and a solid grasp of design concepts
- Excellent time management skills
- Ability to work independently with instruction and as a team member
- Proficient in email and internet communication
Other Considerations
Requires occasional work on evenings/weekends and in-town and out-of-town travel with occasional overnight travel.
Reports to: Communications & Marketing Manager
Wage: $9.25/hour
Hours per week: 18-25 hours/week for fall/spring, 35-40 hours/week for summer
Semesters: Summer and fall 2016, spring 2017 possibly additional semesters
